After acquiring my license, I've encountered a number of distinctive road incidents that I'll like to share with all of you. Most of these are just how typical Singaporeans behave on the road.
Disclaimer: Please do not adopt the following examples.
1. Look out for kpo monkeys
This is happening almost everyday and I'm definitely a part of this category!! When people notice that there is an accident, be it minor or major, they tend to slow down to investigate what's going on. This will eventually cause the entire expressway to be jammed. The exact same thing will definitely occur on the opposite side of the expressway. This is specially terrible and unfortunate when you're rushing for time or when you're in a cab and the meter doesn't stop for jams!
-Please do not mistaken. This just reflects how caring Singaporeans are and how we show concern by taking a few more glances or by snapping some pictures to stomp.
2. Your "grandfather" road
This applies to those who regard the road as if it's owned by their grandfather.
For example:
A. Driving in the center of two lanes.
B. Driving in a way that is obstructing the traffic flow.
C. Making U-turns as and where they want.
D. Some of the drivers are just too comfortable driving on their grandfather's road that they don't even bother to signal before making a left or right turn.
3. High beam expert
Singaporeans are trained to make full use of their high beam in ANY situation.
Some are too skillful that they are able to flash their high beam in a series of pattern and flicker their lights like a disco ball just to warn other drivers. Bravo for that!
4. Superman/Superwoman
One who is able to multitask while driving. This is something incredible and unbelievable! To eat, drink, text, call and even sleep while driving!
5. The Horn
Some drivers just love to sound their horn under any circumstances.
-Seeing people crossing the road just a little slower. "HORN!"
-Stuck in a traffic jam. "HORN!"
-Waiting for people to finish parking their car. "HORN!"
-Driving behind a 'L' plate driver who is barely getting the hang of driving. "HORN!"
These drivers should seriously cultivate the quality of being patient. Please get that sounding the horn will not aid in speeding things up.
Got to admit that I'm one of those typical Singaporeans who commits the above breaches! Please do not cultivate those bad habits.
Have a marvelous Saturday!
